Large Wedding Cakes Now Available

The time has finally arrived! Our bakery is now offering large, mulch-tiered wedding cakes. Fate Cakes started as a cupcake bakery in January of 2013 and we’ve grown to the needs of our community and the needs of our customers.
We originally had a few gourmet flavors back in 2013, and now we have over 15 unique and traditional cupcakes. Even though we still have a special place in our hearts for the cupcakes which put us on the map, our menu has expanded to a large selection which will work for any budget or theme and party.
First after cupcakes came cake pops, which are ideal for that special person who’s looking for an individual treat, perfect for a two-bite sweet tooth. Next, came our cakes. This menu alone has grown the most in the different and variety of pricing/sizes we offer. You’ll have the option for a small cake, serving 6, up to a full sheet cake which serves up to 96 guests.
Our custom designed cakes are made from any request and we can replicate any design that you may find on Pinterest or if you’ve seen similar cake at another party. We price out our cakes as a flat fee based on the techniques used for your design; as well as, the size of the cake.
In March 2015, our team was excited to introduce large, tiered cakes to our menu and we’ll make them as high as the sky. There are no more limits to our cakes, in terms of height, and we’ll be happy to accommodate to any theme, party, and guest list. Whether it’s an ornate design, something you might have seen on a movie set, or traditional with a simplistic and elegant swirl (Photo), we’d be happy to help make that day even more special!

Valentine's Day Hours 2015

We’re excited to announce our bakery will be operating all days of the week/weekend starting February 1st, and will return to our normal 6-days a week schedule after the Valentine’s Day rush. This particular holiday is our busiest, and in years past customers have requested delivery dates on every day of the week, including Sundays; therefore, we love making you happy and have opted to work even harder to work around any scheduled during the Valentine’s Weekend.
Below are our new hours effective February 1st – February 22nd. (We’ll be returning back to our normal hours and operation, Monday, February 23rd).

New Treat To Try In Columbus

News is starting to spread that our delicious little cupcakes are featured as a bakery item at Lucky’s Market in Clintonville. Starting in February 2014, our treats have been a daily treat for all shoppers in this local and organic lil’ store, and some editors at Columbus Underground just had to try our sweets for themselves.
As you guessed it, they were a huge hit amongst the writers, and we were pleasantly surprised to read an impromptu visit to the Ohio grown marketplace inspired an article written about yours truly. At Fate Cakes, we do everything for the community and when it reaches back out to us with open arms and a friendly response, we can’t help but to be filled with a warmth in our hearts.
We think Miriam Bowers puts the icing on the cake when she describes our Buckeye Cupcakes as “a down-home peanut butter cookie flavor”, and we couldn’t agree more that this particular cupcake is for the peanut butter lover – but really, can you ever have too much peanut butter. And honestly with a description like, “it’s soft and smooth and equal parts sweet and peanut buttery,” you’d have to be crazy to not get some of your own to try.

The big game is less than a week away and if you’re hosting that annual party you’re probably looking for some inspiring game day food options. It’s no surprise that every guest will be expecting fun and innovative, but tasty treats all day long as you celebrate the most anticipated game of the year. No matter how many people you’re expecting at your house or venue, our bakery team has compiled a list of simple and delicious items to serve this Sunday!

Super Bowl Chicken Tenders 4. Fried Chicken – again, need we say more. This list of items is a dead giveaway for any party where men will be present. But then again, what American doesn’t like fried chicken tenders? So easy to make and even more tasty. Think you can make this the talk of your party?

Super Bowl Desserts5. Dessert Appetizer? Looking for a little sweet and salty treat to switch up the menu. 5 Tips For The Perfect Baby Shower Cake

Babies are a blessing and at Fate Cakes we’re happy to help celebrate special events within the Columbus, Ohio and surrounding area. We’re delivering gourmet cupcakes and cakes all day long to residential or a specific venue for special events, especially a baby shower.
If you’re planning a baby shower or you are the lucky mom-to-be, we’ve got the perfect desserts for your special day. Our team is here all week long to discuss your themed party and any special requests. Below are some tips our creative folks have compiled to help you choose the perfect baby shower cake.
Theme: First of all it’s important to plan for the most perfect theme. This will be the foundation of your party and will help you coordinate decorations, invitations, party favors, food and most importantly the dessert. We find social media engines are usually the best resource to find a good theme. Keep in mind the season that you’re planning on giving birthday; as well as, what month you’d like the party to happen. (If you’re giving birth in winter it might be nice to have seasonal items for colder weather to allow you to use these belongs once your little bundle of joy is brought back from the hospital).
Cake Flavor: After you’ve picked a custom theme, the next item on the list of what type of cake you’d like to showcase for your special occasion. The style of the cake should be determined by the theme you’ve chosen in the previous step, but at Fate Cakes we offer countless flavors. We can even customize the colors of the cake to be personalized for the sex of your child. If you’re surprising your guests and telling everyone the sex of your child at the time of the baby shower, we can even customize special cupcakes which will feature color coated inside of the cake. This will allow everyone to bite into the cake and be surprised to see if the center is either blue or pink!
Size Of Cake: The most common question we get at Fate Cakes is “How big should my cake be?”. We recommend to always order a larger cake allowing for guests to take more than one piece and even take extra pieces home. We also like to think it’s better to have more than enough than a few attendants who walk away without any cake at all. The size of your cake will also be dependent on the style of your cake. If you’d like a custom shape (Non square / circle) then our team will have to discuss your project in more detail to determine the actual size. Fondant / Buttercream: It’s not surprising that most people have never heard of fondant. If you’re one of the average, don’t worry, this is another common question we are asked at our bakery. (To read more about fondant, read our previously posted article HERE). Deciding on if you’d like your cake to be a traditional buttercream or modern cake with fondant is a fairly easy decision. What we tend to tell customers is if you’re looking for a cake with sleek sides and sharp edges and are most worried about the presentation of the cake, then fondant is for you!
Cake Topper: Most cakes do not have a topper. Some themes will need the added presentation of a cake topper and in that event our team can discuss edible and non-edible options which can be included in the cake quote. While making your order mention that you’d like more information about our toppers and a lead designer will give you all the details needed to determine if a topper is the best choice for your cake.

We’re never too shy to discuss sweet things. We also love talking about Columbus and how lucky we are to have established a bakery in such a loving and diverse city.
Recently a columnist from The Daily Reporter – lawyer/business paper in downtown Columbus, Ohio – contacted our Owner to discuss the success of Fate Cakes and how it all started. It has taken hard work and passion to help build not only a business but bakery which is the talk of our town. Local women hit sweet spot riding the cupcake craze

Marie O’Stroske was working as a full time senior project manager in the Short North and doing freelance web design and web development when she decided to go full throttle with her bakery, Fate Cakes, in March.
Cupcakes are the star at Fate Cakes, a direct delivery company based out of Columbus, which also specializes in cake pops, cakes and will soon unveil a cookie line.
“Our cupcake menu has definitely put us on the map,” O’Stroske said, highlighting her red velvet, chocolate lovers and buckeye-inspired flavors as fan favorites. “We offer a variety of items including specialty cakes but people can’t get enough of the simplicity of cupcakes.”
O’Stroske, who offers delivery services six days a week to the greater Columbus area, said cupcakes make up the lion’s share — 75 percent — of products coming from her bakery.
“I think popular shows like TLC’s Cupcake Wars and other cupcake shows have really helped our industry grow into a fun and creative art which people are excited to embrace,” she said. “You can customize cupcakes and have the option of many flavors per dozen. You don’t have that much flexibility with cakes. Plus, cupcakes are cute.”

O’Stroske also expressed optimism about consumer demand for cupcakes.
“I can’t tell the future, that’d be an amazing superpower though, therefore, I can’t speak about if we’re living in a cupcake fad. What I can predict is Columbus will always need a specialty dessert shop and cupcakes will always be tasty,” she said.
“No matter the outcome of the supposed cupcake craze, I am willing to bet on those superpowers that Fate Cakes will continue to deliver our gourmet desserts all around Columbus. We’re not going anywhere.”

OSU Cake Giveaway – Michigan Week

Our bakery specializes in custom cake designs and other personalized desserts. When we were contacted for helping ABC 6 / FOX 28 WTTE to surprise a lucky viewer we were happy to come up with a fun OSU vs Michigan cake. Their representative found out Buckeye Block O cake online and on Facebook and thought it would be a fun dessert to feature on their Good Day Columbus Weekend show.
We had so much fun on the set of GDC with Maria Durant and Adam Slinger. It can be a little crazy behind the scenes and we were lucky enough to see the entire Beat Michigan show. Their team works so hard and it’s amazing how much on the spot changes we couldn’t imagine how crazy the their every day schedules are during the week.
The phones were ringing off the hook for our cake and Maria even brought one of our miniature cakes to a tailgate she attended before the Noon game. The two anchors enjoyed the taste of our Buckeye cupcakes while on air and teased the audience with our cake throughout the entire show from 8AM until 9:45AM when the cake was the final giveaway of the day.
